How to move an existing Monitor one installation to a new server

Posted On: July 13, 2007 - 09:18 by Admin

Moving an existing Monitor one installation to a new server is simple and straightforward. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Download (the latest) Monitor one installation executable from the FineConnection web site and run this on your new server.
  2. After the installation has successfully finished, launch Monitor one on the new server for the first time. A new and empty project will be created automatically.
  3. Configure the Apache web server by following the instructions on the Web server settings page. Select Options|Global configuration from the menu on the Monitor one control panel and after that choose the Web interface tab.
  4. After you have finished configuring the web server, select Info|License info on the Monitor one control panel. The license info screen opens.
  5. Do the same on your existing server to show your license key(s) and copy them onto your new server.
  6. Press Save key(s) and exit Monitor one on your new server.
  7. Copy the project directory (no child directories) from your old server to your new server. The project directory is the directory where the project database file "<Project name>.fdb" and the project configuration file "<Project name>.amd" reside. By default Monitor one creates all projects in "c:\Monitor one Maps\"
  8. Start Monitor one on your new server and open your project.

Pay attention to the following:

  1. Some companies have special firewalls rules for their Monitor one station based on the source IP address. Take the appropriate actions in this case!
  2. If you're using custom made class images in your project, you should also copy these images to your new server. The class images can be found in: "c:\Program Files\FineConnection\Monitor one\Images\". Monitor one must be restarted after the images have been copied.
