Known problems FP1.75.315

Posted On: October 10, 2006 - 13:54 by Admin

The commandline switch to load a default project does not work anymore after upgrading to version FP1.75.315

Since version FP1.75.315, the commandline switch to load a default project has changed. The new commandline is now:
"C:\Program Files\FineConnection\Monitor one\Monitor1.exe" "/map=c:\Monitor one Maps\<Project name>.amd"

Problem: The Monitor one MIB compiler (MCompiler) has exhausted the memory available to the database engine.

Each time Monitor one starts, it checks the value of the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland\DatabaseEngine\Settings\SYSTEM\INIT\SHAREDMEMSIZE. If the value of this registry key not equals 8192, an attempt will be made to update this value. Although this will succeed in most cases, it sometimes fails (most likely due to insufficient rights!). The default value 2048 may cause erratic and faulty behavior of the database-engine. Please modify the value of this extremely important key manually!

Follow these steps:

  1. Shutdown Monitor one
  2. Logon as administrator
  3. Find the program BDEADMIN.EXE. This is usually in a directory somewhere under "\Program Files\Borland\Common Files\Borland Shared\BDE".
  4. Run BDEADMIN.EXE and click on the Configuration tab.
  5. There should be an item in the treeview on the left side called "Configuration". If it's not expanded, expand it.
  6. Next, expand the System entry below it. Under System, select INIT.
  7. In the right-side window, find the entry called "SHAREDMEMSIZE". Change this value to 8192.
  8. Next, click on the word "Object" in the main window's menu bar, and select Apply.
  9. Answer "OK" to the confirmation to "Save all edits...".

You can now try to start your application again. If you still have trouble running the application and you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000/XP, follow the same instructions above, but this time leave the SHAREDMEMSIZE property at 4096, and change the SHAREDMEMLOCATION property to "0x5BDE". Then apply the changes as before, and retry your application. If you still receive the same error, try changing SHAREDMEMSIZE to 8192. If the error continues to persist, you can also try "0x6BDE" for SHAREDMEMLOCATION.

WEB interface error after upgrading to version FP1.75.315

From Monitor one version FP1.75.315 a new web engine is used. This new engine generates web pages directly from memory and is much faster and more reliable. The web directory that can be specified on the Web interface page from the Global configuration window (Options|Global configuration and than the Web interface tab) is only used for temporarily storing images.

Unfortunately, we have received complaints from users that sometimes the web interface did not work anymore after upgrading to Monitor one version FP1.75.315. An error message popped up when one tried to connect to the Monitor one web interface. The message displayed was:

Error 1) MAP <Project name> could not be found!

If you get the same error after an upgrade to version FP1.75.315 please verify the following:

The new web engine is case sensitive for filenames. The name of a project is kept in a file called <project name>.amd. This file can be found in the project directory (the directory where all database files of a project reside). The <project name> part of the filename must be equal to the actual name of your project (case sensitive!).

The actual project name can be found on the window header (caption) of the root map (first map of a project) in the native Monitor one GUI!

If the caption of the root map shows: "MyCompany" then the name of the .amd file in the project directory must be: "MyCompany.amd". Filenames like: "Mycompany.amd" or "mycompany.amd" will produce the error described above. Modify the name of the .amd file if it is different from your project name!
