Windows server monitoring with Monitor one and Insight manager agents
Below is a short checklist that guides you through the process of easily and quickly setting up a complete health- and performance monitoring and Trap listener / decoding solution for HP / Compaq windows servers with Monitor one.

Requirements:

  • Average or Good knowledge of Monitor one!
  • A Monitor one station (running version FP1.55.248-P1 or higher) connected to the network.
  • HP / Compaq servers running Microsoft Windows NT/2000/2003, all connected to the network.
  • Insight manager agents installed and running on the servers. Insight manager agents can be found and downloaded for free from the HP site! Follow this link

Follow these steps:

  1. Download the Monitor one Class file: WindowsHPCPQIM.zip (see below) and save it to a temporary location on the Monitor one station.
  2. Unzip the Class file. (The zip file contains the Monitor one Class file: WindowsHPCPQIM.pck)
  3. Import the WindowsHPCPQIM.pck in Monitor one. Note that processing can take up to a minute or more depending on your management station's speed. See chapter 4 from the Monitor one pdf manual for detailed instructions.
  4. If you're already monitoring your servers with Monitor one but you want to make use of the new Class definition, remove the servers from the map first.
  5. Fine-tune your monitoring system by reviewing and/or changing the new WindowsHPCPQIM Class settings (Class priority level, the status polling interval, Class image, default read & write community etc)
  6. Verify the list of added HP / Compaq Trap definitions in the Enterprise Specific traps window.
  7. Add all your servers to the network map and assign them the new WindowsHPCPQIM class. Don't forget to draw the connection lines between the servers and the switch(es). Without these links, the Monitor one Error-control feature cannot function properly!
  8. Start the predefined Shooters responsible for Health checking and trending. The most important Shooters for health-checking are: HardwareHealth_Threshold and Disk_RAM_Threshold.

MonitorThe Monitor one "Desktop" option allows you to save Monitor one desktop configurations to the database for quick access later.
CertificateThe new version also comes with a new licensing policy. The required license type is now only determined by the number of device objects on the network map from which you want to monitor uptime. The number of concurrently running Shooters (SNMP monitors) is now "unlimited" in all versions (was dependent of the license type!)
Font_and_ColorThe new version allows you to define the font name, size and color for object labels on the network map.
